Travelzoo partners with hotels to Get the UK Swimming

Free swimming for families in the run-up to the peak summer-holiday period

Travelzoo is to team up with leading hotel brands across the nation including Puma Hotels Collection, De Vere Village Urban Resorts, Radisson Blu, Park Inn by Radisson and Hilton Hotels & Resorts to help families get their children confident in the pool in the run-up to the summer holidays. Travelzoo’s campaign, Get the UK Swimming, which will run over a fortnight, has been inspired by ITV Daybreak’s recent ‘Make a Splash’ initiative, which revealed that one in three children couldn’t swim 25 metres unaided, a factor that directly affects families’ summer holiday choices.

Research carried out by Travelzoo* has revealed that over 78% of respondents felt the onus to teach children to swim was on parents rather than schools. Tuition provided as part of the National Curriculum was deemed inadequate. 

One in 10 respondents found the cost of private lessons prohibitively expensive, but nearly 90% said that their children being able to swim on holiday was important to them. In response to this, Travelzoo is partnering with hotel groups across the UK who have agreed to offer free pool access for parents and children up to 12 years old.

At Travelzoo we are very aware of this from the constant demand for deals to coastal locations and resorts with swimming pools. It’s shocking that so many British families are jetting off each year unable to fully relax because their children cannot swim. We felt it was important to work with our hotel partners around the UK to open up hotel pools for free swimming so that all families have access to facilities to practice swimming in the coming weeks before the summer holidays begin.”

Travelzoo’s hotel partners will be opening their doors in over 35 locations across the country from 3 June 2013 onwards for families to get down to the pool without having to dip into the family funds.
